Don't Quit

Four years ago when I was at my lowest, a lady from my church pressed a book into my hands and said. "This book is something you should read." I figured that since my life was in limbo and getting out of bed every morning was a chore, that I didn't have any thing to lose by reading it. So I bought and read it. It was a Christian book that was called "Don't Quit" - I have since misplaced that book because I can't find it in my book shelves, but I am so grateful that I got a chance to read it because at that time of my life, I wanted to quit putting in the effort to get anywhere because I was afraid that it would come to nothing. Today that book came to mind after my personal training session; not because I needed it again but remembering its existence reminded me of a time when I was ready to quit and I couldn't see the path in front of me. Reading that book made me see the first step I had to take and shortly after that, the darkness began to disap...

Back To The Roots

LIFE Every moment becomes a memory.  Which is why I try to make every waking moment a good one. But at the end of the day, I'm human. This season I have felt that its time to get serious about doing the things I have been putting off and making time to do them. I think the reason why I have become more driven is because I want to enroll in a writing and editing course - I wish I had done it straight after highschool, but the flip-side is I have more life experience to put into it. Another reason is I'll be married in ten months time - I want to start this new chapter in my life - if there is a time to make things right, it's now. LOVE A. and I have both been busy, carving out a future for ourselves in a world that doesn't stop except when we look at each other. I'm counting down the months (impatiently) for the wedding and life is good. & THE EVERYDAY A. was in Sydney last weekend so I hung out at Mum and Dad's. I don't see them as much as...

Taking The Lead

LIFE   Planning a wedding around other life events is a financial juggling act. It has made me more aware of what my everyday budget looks like and how I spend it and when.  Back in January when I found my wedding dress, I paid the deposit and I thought. 'Awesome! I have five months to pay this off!' However, I haven't paid anything towards the dress since paying that deposit because until a couple of weeks ago my mind-set was 'everything is fine, la-de-da-de-da' and last week I had a rude awakening when I realised that I could have had that dress paid off by now and soon I will have to start paying off my flowers...and to top it off, I have an over-seas trip with A. planned late May to early June and while that is mostly paid for, I have to save at least another grand. So the long and short of it is that I have painted myself into a corner... Being ever the optimist, instead of thinking 'Oh shit...oh shiiiiiiit!' (truthfully that was my first react...

Crappy Pancakes, Politics and Love

LIFE Lately I have felt very happy and excited about what life will roll out in the next ten months and beyond. I was afraid to allow myself to be too happy, just in case something bad happened. What I have learnt is that I cannot live like that. It's like living half-heartedly in the moment. So I'll be happy when I'm happy, I'll be sad when I'm sad. Yet what I find to content myself in either is the way I see things. For instance, on Saturday I had to journey to the Gold Coast for a First Aid and CPR course where I caught five buses and two trains - I had never been on that much transport in my life!  I'd taken a couple of wrong turns and got myself lost at Southport. I had a lot of time to think about the wrong turns that had happened in my life - especially the ones from the past three years and even before that. In 2006, the year I graduated from high school - Queensland brought in a new law that required people under the age of 25 to do 100 hours of ...

The Secret & My Korean Obsession

LIFE Some years ago I watched "The Secret", a documentry on the Law Of Attraction after Mum practically chained me to the couch to watch it. She was right when she said I'd love it! Last week I realized that I needed a refresher - so I watched the first twenty minutes and suddenly had a yen to clean my desk. During that time these words came to mind and fell off my tongue. Ï choose to surround myself with beauty.  And I repeated it over and over again. For the past four days I have noticed that I feel calmer, even in the face of stressful situations and when unexpected things happen - I have found that I have been able to do one of two things; Laugh or Move On. Lately I have felt like I should be someone else, doing something else with her life. And that is mostly on days when I speak or think negatively - and usually that 'something else' with my life is writing up a storm on my lap-top. At the moment I am currently wrapping my head around the idea that as...

Contention & My Korean Obsession

LIFE I am at a point in my life where I am content. I have a man to kiss hello every morning, I have a job where I am valued (even though most of the time I feel like I'm going crazy) and in between that I'm Netflixing, Pinteresting and cheating myself out of a trim waist-line. I have been writing in a food diary the past fortnight and today I got marked on my food choices for the past week. 13/35. And those scales are reading 98.3. I really don't know what to say, except that the horns keep the halo from getting lopsided! Today I feel pretty happy, I submitted my Care For Babies module after a good three months. Slowly but surely, I got there. But my aim this year is to be faster to understand the content and what is required of me sooner. Something I have learnt that works for me to study is going onto youtube and listening to waterfalls or heavy rain - it filters out the white noise in my head and the sound of it makes me relax and focus solely on what is in fron...
LIFE On Tuesday night I felt the turning point. After thirteen years I walked into a dance studio for a ballet and jazz class. Walking into that room with a small group of women that were at varying stages of performing wasn't intimidating as it was back when I was a kid. I did feel a bit self-conscious about being barefoot and in dire need of pedicure but once my body got into the rhythm of pirouettes and leaping (as gracefully as possible) across the wooden floor, I didn't even think about it. And as I was getting my 'tude on in jazz class, I realised how much I missed it all. Next Tuesday night I'll be enrolling for the term - I'm so excited about buying my ballet and jazz shoes! LOVE A. and I celebrated our five year anniversary last Tuesday night at our local watering hole - I paid for our dinner and he paid for our drinks. It was pretty low key because the week before he had surprised me with a dinner on the Kookaburra...
